iPhone - Third iPhone software SIM unlock team claims September 1st release

Posted Aug 31st 2007 10:23PM by Ryan Block

The two big teams claiming iPhone software SIM unlock solutions (iPhoneSIMfree and UniquePhones) have been a bit mum of late, but while iPhoneSIMfree's hack is supposedly due by tomorrow, you just might have a free (as in beer) alternative -- if you're the type to believe the hype you read on internet forums. Unknowns the Deathcorp team claim tomorrow, September 1st, will also mark the wide public release of their iPhone SIM unlock software, which is supposedly going to be distributed with no charge to you, unlike iPhoneSIMfree's forthcoming release, and UniquePhones's intended, but waylayed, launch. As usual, we'll be there to sort the fact from the fiction.

LG - LG KS20 announced at IFA 2007

That's the New LG KS20 to IFA 2007. IFA 2007 is certainly off to a flying start in mobile phone aspect. LG KS20 was a pleasant surprise from the first day of the annual event held in Berlin. It is already clear that LG are focusing attention on touchscreen devices since only a few days after the KU990 announcement we now face another touch-based handset with a Prada phone inspired design. LG KS20 is a HSPA-enabled device meaning that it supports both HSDPA and HSUPA for achieving great speeds in downloading as well as uploading. LG has also thought of areas where 3G is not usable adding EDGE and GPRS to the network connectivity capabilities. The TFT touchscreen is as large as 2.8 inches with QVGA (240 x 320 pixels) resolution. The somewhat surprising news here is the presence of the Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional OS in the device, having in mind that its “smart” predecessor KS10 was based on Symbian 9.1 S60UI.

The LG KS20’s camera sports 2 megapixel resolution, autofocus, flash and video recording abilities – not bad for a stylish PocketPC. There is also a secondary camera used for video calls. Other multimedia features of the sleek handset are video and mp3 players as well as FM radio and TV out. The 90MB user memory is expandable through the microSD card slot.

Wireless connectivity is also taken care of by including Bluetooth v2.0 and Wi-Fi in the compact device. LG KS20 measures 99.5 x 58 x 12.9 mm and weighs only 99 grams, which is a great achievement for all the functionality included.

Unfortunately, there is still no word of the new LG family member’s price and availability.

HTC TyTN II: the Kaiser of PocketPCs

One of the hottest rumored PocketPCs by HTC, dubbed as HTC Kaiser, is now a step away from the mystery it was veiled with, as today HTC officially announced HTC TyTN II, a 3G-enabled device, running on Windows Mobile® 6 Professional OS.

HTC TyTN II sports GPS navigation, Wi-Fi, HSDPA 3.6 Mbps and the exclusive TouchFLO technology. It is time for Nokia N95 to tremble under the vast palette of communication and functional capabilities, housed in the HTC TyTN II body, which will probably become the next most successful HTC device after the original HTC TyTN.

It is hard to highlight a major function in HTC TyTN II as it's feature-packed with all the latest technologies. Let us first mention the 65K color TFT touchscreen display with QVGA (240 x 320 pixels) resolution and handwriting recognition. It will certainly get you addicted to, especially with the provided HTC Home menu screen, allowing for fast one-touch access to messages, contacts, appointment and files. The available sliding hardware QWERTY keyboard makes messaging and browsing on the go as easy as it gets in combination with the tilted 2.8" TFT display.

Powered by a 400 MHz processor, HTC TyTN II will certainly handle the demanding tasks of utilizing the integrated GPS receiver, Wi-Fi functionality, video calling or multimedia streaming as fast as the full HSDPA (3.6 Mbps) will allow you to. Navigation through menus and applications is boosted with the proprietary HTC TouchFLO technology which allows a natural touch navigation. In its essence, TouchFLO Technology is a 3-dimensional interface that gives you quick access to messages, internet, multimedia and more.

The HTC TyTN II is also equipped with a 3 megapixel autofocus camera, capable of video recording.

According to some information publshed by FCC, three different versions of the HTC Kaiser will be released after its announcement. The first one dubbed as KAIS110 has no camera and therefore will be primary for corporate users which are prohibited to use cameraphones. The second one is KAIS100 will have only one camera (primary) and finally the last one known as KAIS120 with two cameras (primary and secondary). So definately there will be enough of Kaiser for everyone to enjoy.

HTC TyTN II is planned to hit the shelves within next month, but there is no official information of the estimated price.

Nokia's N95 finally US bound with HSDPA

Seriously, did you ever think this day would come? Well it's official, the N95 is heading Stateside on TKTK. That's right, Nokia's "multimedia computer" is finally touting HSDPA on the US-friendly 850MHz and 1900MHz bands. No more trekking to Europe or your "local" Nokia store for a data-excluded, N95 experience. Otherwise, it's still the same GPS lovin' WiFi monster we've ogled for months. Yeah, we could hardly believe it either until we went hands-on over at Engadget Mobile.
